I grew up with ghosts. My childhood home sits 100 yards from where my seven times great grandfather built one of the first adobes in Orange County, CA in 1801. I heard and felt my ancestors but could not see them.
We created a language to communicate. I sat under the olive trees they planted and listened to their stories. I walked, biked or drove the boundaries of the 62,500 acre Rancho Santiago de Santa Ana by following the red-dotted lines in the Thomas Guide. I rolled through the orange poppies and walked through the chaparral. I dropped into a trance and asked the earth to tell me her stories. I asked the opinion of the Santa Ana River and the hot electric Santa Ana Winds that blow and are even now causing great damage in southern California. I sent love through the earth.
Terrapsychology or the “Study of the Soul of the Earth” has been my life’s work, my personal legend since I was nine years old. I am now channeling the memories into writing my eleventh book and first historical fiction/magical realism novel, The Last Daughters of the Don, a fictionalized account of my third great grandmother’s response to the American invasion of California in 1846. DespiTe the travesties, natural disasters, and human cruelty, this story tells how the women held the community together through love and family.
Speaking with my ancestors’ spirits, gave me the courage to speak to the river and the trees, which became the foundational practice of my Witchcraft. Most Magick makers believe in animism, a consciousness in everything alive, whether it’s animals, herbs, weather systems, human handiwork, and even words and stories. This consciousness is what we communicate with our spellwork, rituals and ceremonies.
Terrapsychology builds upon animism by concentrating on the stories that affect the soul of the land. The study of the soul workings of land spirits intermingling with our own soul’s journey, teaches us, in a visceral way, about the inner workings of our thoughts, feelings, and Magickal potential.
Tapping into the memories of the land builds a portal to reach the numinous fourth dimension of time and space, also called the meditative state, theta wavelengths, the dream consciousness, and even in the Grace of God/dess. Once you have felt this vibration, you can utilize this experience to recall what it feels like to align with universal energy and channel it into your personal and Magickal life.
I created the Terrapsychology and Witchcraft workshop to share the tools I learned with you, which I will present at WitchCon Online on February 9, 2:45pmPT.
In this workshop, you will
Explore how to utilize your Magick to heal human and earth stories experienced and witnessed by land spirits.
Learn the illimitable possibilities of listening to déjà vu, DNA memories, and the soul of the earth
Discover ways to morph your sight to perceive new possibilities on the horizon, both physically and metaphysically.
Unlock how stories help us make sense of our world, connect on an emotional level, and sustain focus for reading, communicating with, and bending the unseen forces.
Life presents us with extraordinary challenges and opportunties to learn and grow. No matter what comes your way, Be Love. Find the way back to your true essence: You are Love and Light.
The next full moon on January 13 at 2:25 p.m. PT will be in Cancer, which means you are going to have some pretty big feels. When the Full Moon in in Cancer, you might find that something from the past arises so that you can heal; your sense of safety and comfort is at the forefront of your mind, or your inner world is activated and wants to feel into the most nurturing ways to honor your most private parts of yourself.
Make a list of five signs that life is running smoothly: food in fridge, gas in car, regular exercise, healthy bodycare, meaningful work, plenty of spell candles, lots of incence, harmony in the house, etc. Place this list where the moon can shine on it. Add any other elements of ritual, such as lighting a candle, pulling an oracle card, meditative breathing, journaling.
