We are closing in on the Year of the Snake, a time to explore what is working well for you, what must be released, and how your inner wisdom can guide your personal evolution. It was a year marked by seeking clarity about the habits, ideas, and stories that we had outgrown. In 2025, we took a hard look at humanity and ourselves and pushed for something more. We outgrew the skin we wore.
A snake sheds its skin to remove parasites and damaged skin, just as we need to let go of the shadow that haunts our inner world. According to Carl Jung, the shadow represents the unwelcome aspects of ourselves and the traumatic stories we deem unworthy or unbearable, which we hide deep in our subconscious. As Jung says, these shadows don’t remain static; they morph into the most deformed aspect of themselves. With ambition and a commitment to growth, the Year of the Snake implored us to excavate and shed our shadow.
During the shedding process, called molting, snakes go temporarily blind. In the midst of this huge, life-changing moment, they are at their most vulnerable and lash out whenever they perceive a threat. Strike now, ask questions later, is a common response when we feel danger or confusion.
The Wood Snake asked us to move slowly, meticulously toward our truth, in preparation for the Year of the Fire Horse that begins on February 17, 2026, and ushers in an unstoppable urge for forward momentum.
My double Capricorn, Virgo Moon is telling me that exposing my shadow is social suicide. But, encouraged by the closing of the Year of the Snake, I’ve realized that what I need to release is the A+++ student. You may understand this pressure to finish each task first, in record time, always looking good while you do it. A+++ students will eat all the gold stars for breakfast just so friends will say sunshine glows out of every orifice. Quietly, but daily, this relentless ambition for perfection drives us to places of “not enoughness” that I’d assume never visit again.
I am ready to be freed of my obsession with the gold-star social influencer and the security and wealth it promises. Quite honestly, Bad Bunny pushed what was already on its way out with a message and a performance based on love. As a Mexican American, I have so much pride in the strength of Latin communities to love and dance despite what others say. It’s going to take a huge momentum of human courage to prioritize community, love, and rising together. Each light beam of energy toward love, which will always be stronger than hate, makes a huge difference. YOU, an empowered YOU, makes a difference.
