When did you first answer the call of the Wild?
I have longed to have a May Pole Dance in my back yard since I watched my children dance around the May Pole at Waldorf School. It was such a joyous celebration that I observed for a decade, while yearning to dance along.
This year I began hosting Wiccan Sabbats at my home. This was the Beltane that I would have that dance. The faeries would be pleased. My wild feral self would be elated.
A few years prior, my partner Joey had planted a telephone pole in the backyard to grow hops. I removed the stakes and string and began the work of transforming the hops trellis into a magnificent May Pole. Several of the women in our Magickal Mamas group gave hours of their time to clear brush, move rocks, rake dirt, decorate with flowers, fix the wooden bridge, and create a sacred site for us to celebrate the raucous holiday that is Beltane.
